Speaking...Listening....Learning with Toastmasters!
If you're like most people, you would rather die than give a speech. In a survey done for The Book of Lists, fear of public speaking outranked the fear of death by a two-to-one margin! With public speaking skills in such short supply, is it any wonder that good communicators and leaders have a clear advantage over their tongue-tied colleagues?
Toastmasters International, a nonprofit educational organization, has been working for more than 70 years to provide for this need and help people conquer their pre-speech jitters. Today Toastmasters has more than 170,000 members in 8,300 Toastmasters clubs in 69 countries.
Austin or surrounding area residents: If you're interested in developing your public and interpersonal communication skills, we want to be your Toastmasters club! Balcones, founded in 1962, is a community Toastmasters club. That means we have a diverse membership with a variety of professions, ages, and experience levels. There's always something fun and different going on at Balcones meetings, all in a comfortable, friendly atmosphere.
Every weekly meeting is a "learn-by-doing" workshop. New members can progress through projects designed to instill a basic foundation in public speaking, while experienced Toastmasters can select advanced programs geared to specific career or personal development goals.
We invite you to join us for breakfast next Monday morning here in Austin!
