Tutorial for Prayer & Pledge doc

This coming Monday, you are on the schedule for the first time to lead the Prayer and Pledge. This gives you the opportunity to get our meeting off to an inspiring and wonderful start.

Here are a few tips on how to effectively perform this role.

1. Prepare your prayer in advance of the meeting. Prayer content is up to you. If you are not into praying a traditional prayer, provide an inspirational message - an uplifting thought, quote, or poem. 30-45 seconds max.

2. Be there on time - even 5 minutes early. Prayer and Pledge is one of the first things on the agenda.

3. When called on by the Presiding Officer, ask everyone to stand and bow their heads as appropriate. You don't need to go to the front of the room, but you can if you like.

4. When done with the prayer, ask everyone to face the flag, then lead us in reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.

5. When done with the pledge, ask everyone to "Please be seated."

Not much to it, but like I said, a very important role to set us in the right mood for the meeting.
